PGA Championship 2024: Scottie Scheffler arrives at Valhalla after birth of son
LOUISVILLE — Scottie Scheffler arrived to the PGA Championship on Monday as the reigning Masters champ … and as a new father.
Scheffler, the World No. 1 and PGA Championship favorite, missed last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, albeit for a good reason, as he and his wife Meredith were expecting the birth of their first child. The baby was born May 8, a boy they named Bennett.
Scheffler was spotted at Valhalla’s practice facilities early Monday afternoon, receiving plenty of congratulations from fellow players. Scheffler is expected to speak with the media on Tuesday.
Scheffler enters the PGA Championship as winner of four of his last five starts, highlighted by his second Masters title and becoming the first player to successfully win the Players Championship in back-to-back years. The two other victories weren’t too shabby either, as both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and RBC Heritage are signature events on the PGA Tour.
The Texan has three top-10 finishes in four career PGA Championship starts, including a T-2 at last year’s PGA, finishing two shots behind Brooks Koepka.
