Haas saw both cars disqualified from Monaco Grand Prix qualifying over failed technical checks after the session.
Nico Hulkenberg qualified 12th during the session while team-mate Kevin Magnussen also made it through to Q2 to go 15th fastest. But there was trouble not long after the conclusion of the session when both cars were checked by the FIA.
Technical delegate Jo Bauer reported to the stewards that a problem had been found on the rear wing of both Haas cars relating to the DRS systems. An official document read: “The uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions were checked on car numbers 20 and 27.
“The LHS and RHS outermost area of the of the adjustable elements were exceeding the maximum allowed 85mm on both cars. As this is not in compliance with TR Article 3.10.10 h), I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.”
The stewards considered that reported and concluded that both Haas cars should be stripped of their qualifying results. Magnussen and Hulkenberg were disqualified and will start Sunday’s race from the pit lane.
Explaining the decision, the stewards wrote: “The technical delegate discovered on examination that the uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions exceeded the maximum allowed under Article 3.10.10.h of the technical regulations of 85mm.
“The team explained that this was the consequence of an inadvertent error on their part in setting the wing flap gap. The wing used was a new design that was used for the first time in Monaco. The old design was set to be compliant with the regulations with the largest gap measured from the centre of the wing.
