Confirmed: Bones’ sends threatening message to Tiger woods and Justin Thomas after brutal argument in…
next job after splitting with Justin Thomas
Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay will return to full-time TV duties at NBC/Golf Channel after splitting with PGA Tour star Justin Thomas.
Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay will return to TV duties with NBC/Golf Channel for ‘years to come’ after parting ways with Justin Thomas.
The unsurprising announcement was made by Sam Flood, the executive producer of NBC Sports, before the first round of the Memorial Tournament.
Bones is best known for his 25-year stint as Phil Mickelson’s caddie.
We thought his days carrying the clubs were over given how much he enjoyed swapping Lefty’s heavy Tour bag for a microphone.
But PGA Tour star Thomas lured him back inside the ropes before the duo called time on their association earlier in the year.
Thomas made the stunning announcement on the eve of the 2024 Masters, prompting speculation the two fell out.
The golfer insisted he had nothing but love and respect for Bones and his family and has since hired Patrick Cantlay’s former caddie Matt Minister.
“He will be part of NBC Sports for years to come as we’re going to partner for a long time with him,” Flood said in a statement.
Bones’ first job will be the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No.2.
In a statement to Golfweek, Bones said: “It’s great for me and I couldn’t be happier about the situation.
“In terms of where I am in my life this is the perfect scenario for me and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Bones confirmed his days caddying aren’t over, though.
He said he’ll happily fill in from time-to-time if needed.
“I’ll do what I did before – if someone is sick or between caddies and needs a guy for a week and it’s not an NBC event, then I’d be happy to help out,” he said.
“But beyond that I will be doing TV primarily as far as what I do for a living.”
