PGA Tour commentator ripped over ‘lying’ about new LIV Golf innovation
Golf fans believe the PGA Tour has copied LIV Golf’s homework in relation to new drone tracer technology on latest live broadcast.
During the third round of the $20m signature event at TPC River Highlands, CBS commentator and one-time PGA Tour winner Nobilo described the latest bit of golf tech as ‘never been before done TV’.
Only drone tracer tech has been used before.
On for the past nine months in fact.
The breakaway Saudi-bankrolled league debuted drone tracer technology at Trump National Doral back in October 2023.
The tech was used at various different points during the weekend broadcast.
Drone tracer tech only shows where the golf ball is heading side on, but also reveals the apex and carry distance of the shot.
A number of ardent golf fans were quick to let the PGA Tour and Nobilo know about their latest slip of the tongue.
“Imagine saying this lie knowing the truth and how easy it is to disprove,” tweeted one fan.
“LIV did this nine months ago, there is nothing wrong with innovation and copying it. Just don’t lie!”
Another commented: “Yeah… the LIV Golf League has been doing this for almost a year already.”
A third added: “The PGA Tour copying LIV Golf drone tracer after nine months and calling it a first is hilarious.”
LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman once admitted the PGA Tour had when it had been made clear the circuit was adding more reserve money into limited-field, no-cut events with inflated prize purses.
