Qualifiers for all 2024 Signature Events, THE PLAYERS and majors
Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland secured a spot at the 2024 Open Championship with his performance at the Italian Open presented by Regione Emilia-Romagna at Adriatic Golf Club Cervia
With no exemptions into The Open Championship up for grabs at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, champion Cam Davis will have to qualify for the last major of the year through another conduit. However, his one-stroke victory yielded berths into the 2025 editions of The Sentry, THE PLAYERS Championship, the Masters and the PGA Championship. The 29-year-old Aussie also extended his PGA TOUR membership through 2026.
But the weekend wasn’t without news as four more qualifiers into the field of 156 at Royal Troon were determined at multiple competitions.
Tommy Morrison led it off with a playoff victory at the 37th European Amateur Championship on Saturday. He went par-birdie-birdie in overtime at The Scandinavian Golf Club’s New Course in Denmark in dismissing runners-up Max Kennedy and Preston Summerhays. Morrison, who just completed his sophomore season at the University of Texas, was the first American to win the event. The Open Championship will serve as his debut in a professional tournament.
When the results were official, Calum Scott landed atop The Open Amateur Series and earned an exemption into The Open. With a T2 at the St. Andrews Links Trophy on June 9, a T5 at the British Amateur on June 22 and a solo fourth at the European Amateur, the Scot collected the most World Amateur Golf Ranking points in the aggregate of those not already exempt into the major.
The Italian Open sent the next two to Royal Troon. The top two, not otherwise exempt, who made the cut qualified. Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland lost in a playoff to Marcel Siem but nabbed the first exemption as Siem already is eligible. McKibbin’s spirited run of the last 12 months or so recently included a T41 at the U.S. Open.
The second spot needed the Official World Golf Ranking as a tiebreaker between American Sean Crocker and Jannik De Bruyn of Germany because they shared third place at Adriatic Golf Club. With a better slot of 284th upon arrival, Crocker edged De Bruyn (590th).
Final Qualifying for The Open is slated for Tuesday, July 2. At least four spots from each of four sites are reserved. Scroll or swipe to REMAINING QUALIFYING CRITERIA beneath the alphabetical list for more detail.
NOTE: Golfers are omitted if they recently haven’t competed in majors for which they are eligible (e.g., The Open Championship=Justin Leonard).
