SILIVIS, Ill. – Starting with an eagle “3” on the par-5 second hole and finishing with a string of six birdies over his next seven, Hayden . Then, things got a little harder.

Six straight pars on the backside slowed his march to the second sub-60 round in TPC Deere Run history.

He did it the hard way, holing out from 55 yards from the left rough at the par-5 17th and then moving to No. 18 with a chance to follow in the footsteps of Paul Goydos, who carded his magical 59 at TPC Deere Run in 2010. A 308-yard drive to the right middle of the fairway followed by a 153-yard approach to 12 feet, 8 inches put the big-hitting rookie in prime position for a piece of golf history.

He drained it for a star-spangled 12-under round of 59.

Like Goydos, Springer blistered a rain-softened golf course, playing lift-clean-and-place. Unlike Goydos, who went 8-under on the back, Springer did his damage on the front. His 8-under front tied the 54-year-old tourney’s nine-hole record first set by Fuzzy Zoeller with a streak of eight-straight birdies at Oakwood Country Club in 1976 and matched by five others, including Goydos and Sepp Straka en route to a John Deere win last year.
