Another record broken Luke Clanton has just done something incredible nobody has for over 60 years at the John Deere Classic…. Full details below
Another PGA Tour event is in the books as Davis Thompson secured his first win on tour at The John Deere Classic this weekend.
Thompson took the win by shooting a stunning 28 under par over four rounds to see of a field that was massively under par as a group.
However, while Thompson will rightfully take plenty of acclaim, there was another star of the show in the form of amateur player, Luke Clacton.
The 20-year-old is one the emerging stars in the golf world right now and after finishing in the top ten at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week, Clanton once again impressed.
The American fired a final round of eight under par to finish in a tie for second and in doing so, he made history.
Luke Clanton does something not seen for half a century at the John Deere Classic
Amazingly for Clanton, despite not winning and seeing Thompson produce a brilliant round himself, the young American still came away with something to shout home about.
In a stat shared across social media, Clanton has made history by becoming the first amateur since 1958 – more than 60 years ago – to finish top ten in two consecutive starts on the PGA Tour.
The last person to achieve such a feat was Billy Joe Patton, who back in 1957 and 1958 finished in the top ten in both the US Open and the Masters.
Clanton had spoken on Saturday about his third round about how he felt on cloud nine and was struggling to take everything in.
“I can’t even really fathom what’s happening right now, honestly,” Clanton said. “I’m still a 20 year old kid in college just having fun. Doing that stuff a unreal.”
Clanton, then, will be pinching himself even more tonight as he celebrates his excellent performance at the John Deere.
Whether he can make it three from three, remains to be seen
