The British Open Championship weather forecast: Heavy rain greets early starters at Royal Troon

True Open Championship weather greeted the first round at Royal Troon, with players facing rain, and wind Thursday as The 152nd Open got underway. The official forecast calls for “outbreaks of rain and drizzle” throughout the day with a “moderate to fresh” breeze.
The wind is forecast to strengthen throughout the day, with gusts above 20 mph.

Friday: Overcast to start Friday with a chance of drizzly outbreaks still. Turning drier, with the potential to see some brighter spells at times into the afternoon. Rainfall: Trace amounts. Winds: S or SSE, 9-12 mph gusting 13-18 mph to start Friday. Will become S to SSW 14-17 mph gusting 22-27 mph by late morning. Chance of seeing gusts up to 28-32 mph during the afternoon. High temperature: 68 degrees.
Saturday: Moderate to low confidence in detail. Remaining changeable, with a longer period of rain possible Saturday, and potentially heavy bursts of rain at times. Light to moderate winds between the south and west. High temperature: 64 degrees.
Sunday: Moderate to low confidence, but chance of a drier and brighter day Sunday with some light showers at times. A breezy southwest wind expected, gusts potentially up to 20 mph. High temperature: 64 degrees.
