The most successful major champion of all time, Jack Nicklaus, has made a heartbreaking confession about his golf game after saying he “no longer enjoys” playing on the golf course.
Nicklaus is considered to be the greatest player of all time, perhaps alongside Tiger Woods, with a record 18 major titles and a total of 117 professional tournament wins. But today, at 83 years old, it seems the golf great no longer has love for the sport he dominated for so many years.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the “Golden Bear” said he “wants to go back and play. I play worse than it is not fun. And my golf ball is over. \ He added, “People always want to play my way,” he added. \ “Well, I can do it now. The truth is, I don’t want to play like that.’
Nicklaus was speaking at the Integra Connect Golf Classic clinic to raise money for Conquer Cancer at PGA National with European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, Ernie Els and Annika Sorenstam. The four golfing stars were giving on-course advice at the Palm Beach course, but Nicklaus decided to leave it to Donald, Els and Sorenstam. Nicklaus’ final golf shot was revealed to be when he hit a ceremonial drive alongside Gary Player at the 2023 Masters. Nicklaus was a constant presence on the golf course throughout his later years, playing competitive professional golf, and played on the Champions Tour until age 65, his final tournament being in 2005. American players continued to play, especially at Augusta, for several years afterward.
