Greg Norman says he is ‘disgusted’ at the ‘hatred’ LIV Golf players receive despite ‘carrying the game of golf’
Greg Norman recently called the treatment of LIV Golf players ‘disgusting.’ He said that the hatred towards the players was uncalled for, considering their contributions to the game.
Norman has been the CEO of the LIV Golf circuit since its inception and has been the main force behind the circuit’s growth. LIV Golf is now in its third season and has seen players like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau become major champions and Richard Bland win two major championships.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Norman addressed the unfounded criticism leveled at LIV Golf players. “Praise to the lads who came in as starters,” he told Mirror Sport. “They came in with a massive headwind. To be honest, the vitriol and hatred was just disgusting, considering what they’ve done for golf.
“How they’ve been successful in golf and the organization they represent. I didn’t like it, “he added.
Greg Norman’s comment came at the same time as Richard Brand won advanced experts. He defeated Hiroyuki Fujita in a playoff to win the U.S. Senior Open title on Monday, July 1. Bryson DeChambeau also won the U.S. Open last month, beating Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Regarding negotiations between the PIF and the PGA Tour, the two sides have yet to reach consensus on the framework agreement. Although Fire Pit Collective has reported some progress, neither authority has made a public announcement. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said recently that more work is still needed to finalize a deal.
The Saudi-backed tour is now eyeing Chambers Bay, home of the 2015 U.S. Open, the Tacoma News Tribune reported. It is noteworthy that Dustin Johnson and Louis Ostezen were two golf LIV players who finished as the second lesson this year.
Since 2015, Chamber’s Bay has not been disclosed, and it is not expected to be returned in the near future, given that the place has been spent in the next 20 years. Pierce County officials are reportedly looking for other tournaments, with LIV Golf now being one of them.
