LIV Golf star shows true feelings with Tommy Fleetwood message as he admits jealousy
This year, Casey was not part of Britain’s squad, which includes Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick. While he supports his British compatriots, he is envious that they get to compete in France.
Prior to the golf event, Casey said: “Tommy was everything you could ever want in a teammate. Although we don’t play as a team, as my fellow Brit on site this year with Matt, I think they’re going to be absolutely fantastic for Team GB. Part of me is very, very jealous because it’s something amazing, and I believe Tommy and Matt have a great chance of winning a medal. I wish them all the best and will certainly be watching.”
Fleetwood entered the final round one shot behind Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele, who were tied for third. The Brit still has a strong chance of winning an Olympic medal.
Reflecting on his own past disappointment, Casey said: “To finish tied third and then leave the Olympics with nothing was quite sobering. It gave me insight into the experience of Olympic athletes who work so hard for four years, only to find the Olympic experience can be quite humbling. In our sport, we compete almost every week On the bright side, representing your country at any level, and having done so from amateur to professional, the Olympics ranks among the greatest experiences I’ve had, despite the results. The experience was unique because it was Japan, during Covid, so we couldn’t stay longer than the event and couldn’t mingle as we wished. Still, it was unforgettable.”
