Tom Kim shares what Scottie Scheffler did to make him ’emotional’ after his final round at the Olympics
It wasn’t to be for Tom Kim as he came up short of winning a medal at the Olympic games in Paris.
Kim carded a final round of three under par to finish down in 8th place as he saw playing partner and close friend, , take the gold medal.
For Kim, there was a lot riding on the matter in terms of not just winning a medal at an Olympics, but also in terms of his personal life.
The South Korean is set for military service and a medal would have potentially seen him avoid it.
However, it wasn’t to be and Kim now faces an anxious wait over just what his near future holds in terms of that obligatory service to his country.
Clearly, the emotions of that outcome and the sheer fact of losing out on a medal took its toll on Kim and after his final round, he was clearly trying to soak everything in.
Luckily, he was playing alongside his good friend Scottie Scheffler and it seems that some words from Scheffler made Kim all the more emotional.
Tom Kim explains Scottie Scheffler exchange after his final round at the Olympics
Speaking to the media afterwards and clearly emotional, Kim was questioned about his exchange with Scheffler as they walked off the course.
And while he didn’t reveal the words Scheffler said, Kim explained how the world number one did have something to say to him after the 18th.
“Never been really emotional after a round. I think these emotions are surprising but I think it’s just all the hard work I’ve done this year to put myself in this position, those things are coming out.
“Just the things Scottie said to me after the round really kind of came out and I’m just trying to hold it together. It is more a private conversation. So just grateful for the friendship.
“He’s a really good buddy of mine. We are probably going to play some golf again next week. He understands what I’ve gone through. Just those things and a friend to say something like that after what he did, it means a lot.”
For Scheffler, of course, Olympic Gold caps a fine 2024 which has seen him become the dominant name in the golf world.
