Matt Kuchar told what made his refusal to play the 18th even worse after Wyndham Championship finishes

Matt Kuchar caused quite the stir over the weekend with his refusal to finish the 18th hole at the Wyndham Championship.

Kuchar opted not to finish up – the only player to do so – and instead come back on the Monday morning to make a par and seal a tie for 12th.

, while the player himself tried to defend his actions

However, while that apology was there, it’s still been one of the major talking points of the weekend.

Indeed, fellow tour pro ‘, and speaking on the matter further, golf journalist Dan Rappaport has also laid into Kuchar’s decision.

Golf journalist explains why Matt Kuchar decision was a ‘tone deaf’ move

Journalist Rappaport is never one to hold back on an opinion and he took to  platforms to speak out on – and slam – Kuchar’s decision.

“A lot of people were going to have to come back for him, to get that hole ready for him, etc. But it’s actually worse than that,” Rappaport said.

“They didn’t even get to play any golf on Thursday as there was a tropical storm so the grounds crew, were kind of working over-time all week to get the golf course ready.

“They finally do everything they need to do, finish the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds on the Sunday.

“But Matt Kuchar, tied for 12th place, decided to come back. Maybe you think he’s on the bubble and needs points for the playoffs? But that is not true, he’s not even close to making the FedEx Playoffs.

“He’s coming back to make a better score, but that’s ignoring everyone else’s situation. With Kuchar’s history with events that were not so popular on social media, it’s a tone deaf move if nothing else.”

Kuchar has to regret his decision

In golfing terms, Matt Kuchar came back and made a par in better conditions and in turn, sealed a tie for 12th place at the Wyndham.

Furthermore, it maintained his place in the top 125 in the OWGR and that stands for something among players.

However, when he looks back, and as his words hinted at yesterday, he will surely regret just not finishing up and avoiding this sort of drama.

Kuchar will now be questioned on it time and time again and it brings yet more negative scrutiny to him and the game in general.

All in all, this could and should have been avoided and deep down, Kuchar will know it.
