Olympics golf commentator apologizes for ‘inappropriate’ slip of the tongue
Morgan Pressel, a former LPGA star turned commentator, found herself in hot water after letting an expletive slip during her coverage of the women’s golf tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While reacting to a particularly impressive shot by Brooke Henderson on the 14th hole, Pressel accidentally dropped the F-bomb live on air, which quickly caught viewers’ attention.
In her excitement, she enthusiastically praised Henderson’s aggressive play, remarking, “She’s f***ing fired up, you love to see it,” unaware of the microphone capturing her unfiltered comment.
Pressel later issued a public apology, expressing deep regret for the incident. She clarified that her words were a result of stumbling over her speech, which unfortunately came out wrong, and assured fans that such language is not something she would typically use in a broadcast.
Despite the mishap, Henderson’s performance didn’t lead to a podium finish, as she ended the tournament tied for 13th place, seven shots behind New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, who claimed the gold.
The competition saw Ko outperform her rivals, with Germany’s Esther Henseleit securing silver and China’s Lin Xiyu taking bronze. Meanwhile, the men’s event the previous week saw Team USA’s Scottie Scheffler dominate, winning gold with a commanding -19 score, while Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood captured silver.
