Scottie Scheffler admits what confused him about the golf course at the BMW Championship and why he got so angry

It says everything about how good Scottie Scheffler has been this year that he registered his second worst finish of the season at the BMW Championship after ending up in a tie for 33rd at Castle Pines.

Scottie scheffler went into the penultimate event of the FedEx Cup play-offs having failed to finish inside the top 10 on just two occasions all year, with his worst result being a tie for 41st at the US Open. That result at Pinehurst was the only time the world number one had ended up outside the top 20.

However, it seems fair to say that Scheffler will not be one of those pushing for the  to return to Castle Pines anytime soon, with the 28-year-old struggling to adapt to the conditions.

Scottie Scheffler shares why he got so angry at BMW Championship

Speaking in his press conference after his final round, Scheffler admitted that he never managed to work the course out over the tournament.

“Yeah, it’s frustrating when you feel like you’re doing stuff that’s good and it’s not turning out the way you’re intending it to,” he said.

“I remember on No. 10 I felt like I was hitting it in the rough way too often. Hit it in the rough there again, hit it in the water.

“The day before, I hit a really good shot into 15 and the ball spins off the green. I have the same number, very similar number, I think I had just a touch shorter on 10. I’m like, oh, perfect, big slope again. That green was soft yesterday. Should have just chipped a little 56. Hit it exactly how I wanted to, ball lands next to the pin, and it bounces six over the green. It’s kind of like, man, that’s just tough.

“I really didn’t understand how it was possible that that green was not a similar firmness. Felt like we got some rain and really it was just one of those deals where the golf course this week just got the better of me.

“Like I said, the balls were not bouncing the way I thought they were going to. I was a bit off most of the week.”

Changes to world number one’s schedule may be on the cards for 2025

It is clear that Scheffler is not a fan of playing the week before a big event, and in truth, he could have probably taken this week off and still had a two-shot le

Playing – and winning – The Memorial the week before the US Open did him few favours, while he did not take part in the Scottish Open ahead of The Open Championship, instead opting to head to Royal Troon a couple of days earlier.

So it will be interesting to see whether what happened at Castle Pines influences his plans next year. Of course, he is going to have to do something unbelievable to have the same kind of lead in the standings in 12 months, but Scheffler appears to be someone who prioritises his processes.

If he feels that playing at the BMW Championship hurt his chances at East Lake, then he is surely going to consider changes for 2025.
