Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was found cold and unresponsive in his bed after a suspected overdose last month, according to reports.
The Colts announced last week that Irsay, 64, is receiving care for a ‘severe respiratory illness’ after being forced to withdraw from the latest leg of his band’s world tour in Los Angeles.
‘He is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible,’ a team statement read.
In police documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Irsay is said to have suffered a suspected overdose at his Carmel residence in early December.
Indiana police were reportedly dispatched to the property at around 4:30am on December 8, after someone had found the billionaire laying unconscious with a blue skin tone while gasping for air.

Irsay had reportedly been moved to his bed by the time police arrived, where he was still struggling to breathe with ‘a weak pulse and constricted pupils’.
According to the police docs, an attempt to wake him with a sternum rub – which applies pressure to the central area of the chest – proved unsuccessful. Yet after administering one dosage of Narcan – a drug commonly used to revive people in opiate overdose situations – Irsay is understood to have responded ‘slightly’.
Just as police were ready to attach a defibrillator to him, paramedics arrived and took over lifesaving efforts before he was transported to hospital via ambulance.
While a caretaker provided them with a list of medications he had been taking, the police’s report continued: ‘At this time, it is unknown what Mr. Irsay had ingested prior to our arrival.’
The incident was classified as both ‘overdose’ and ‘overdose/poisoning’.
The Colts have since released another statement, saying that he is still recovering from a ‘respiratory illness’.
‘We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family’s privacy be respected.’
Irsay – who has not been seen publicly in weeks, according to ESPN’s Colts reporter Stephen Holder – recently revealed in an interview with Andrea Kremer that he’s been to rehab 15 times and nearly died of an overdose at one point.
He said: ‘One time, I was trying to detox myself, and I mixed multiple drugs that I didn’t know anything about.
‘So all of a sudden, I start slurring my words. And then code blue, I stop breathing.
Irsay started working at the Colts in 1984 during his father’s ownership before taking over as the majority owner in 1997
The Colts have been in the Irsay family ever since 1972 when his late father, Robert, bought them in Baltimore in 1972 before famously moving the franchise to Indianapolis nine years later.
Irsay started working at the Colts in 1984 during his father’s ownership before taking over as the majority owner in 1997 at the age of 37 after his father’s death.
In 2014 he was arrested for driving under the influence and charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Police said he was in possession of bottles of prescription drugs and over $29,000 in cash when they pulled him over for erratic driving in Carmel, Indiana.
Prosecutors eventually dropped the felony charges and Irsay pled guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated. However, he did check into a rehab center.
