Sad news: Tiger Woods broke down in tears while giving his final words before retiring from golf for good.
Colin Montgomerie said Woods was worn down by age and injuries and was adamant that he couldn’t lose the 150th British Open at St. Andrews, his favorite golf course in the world.
“It’s time,” 15-time major winner Montgomerie told the Banker Podcast after missing out on the 2022 Old Course.
“You stand on this bridge and you start waving your arms and everybody’s like, ‘So what? “Yes, it will be a beautiful avenue.” The stands were packed, TV cameras from around the world, on every continent were on him, and yet he was walking there alone, clearly with tears in his eyes…

That’s when Tiger said, ‘All right, I’m off.’”Now 48, Woods is still grappling with the fading light of an unprecedented career and is set to play his 23rd British Open Championship at Royal Troon next week.
The three-time Claret Jug winner has played just seven tournaments since his emotional walk across Marsh Bridge. Its last six competition towers, all the majors of this year, look dark.While continuing to fight against injuries suffered in a fatal car accident in February 2021, a T60th in control of this year was not a reason for optimism.
“I hope that the passion and the charismatic aura that surrounded Tiger will help people remember him for who he was,” Montgomery told the Times.
In Pinehurst, none of the hits seemed to hit the mark, leaving some to wonder, “What on earth are they doing?”
