Luke Humphries has responded sharply after James Wade remarked that only Phil Taylor and possibly Michael van Gerwen surpass him in terms of greatness.
James Wade expressed his perspective on Luke Humphries following Gary Anderson’s defense of the current world No. 1 and reigning world champion.
Wayne Mardle also commented on Gary Anderson’s remarks during the World Grand Prix. Wade supported Anderson’s earlier statements by passionately defending Humphries, asserting that only Phil Taylor and perhaps Michael van Gerwen can be considered superior world champions. Humphries, the world No. 1, has had an impressive year, starting with his victory at the World Grand Prix in 2023, followed by wins at the Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals, and the World Championships at Alexandra Palace later that year. Wade’s remarks came shortly after two-time world champion Anderson noted that Humphries is often “overlooked” and deserves “a bit more respect.”
“I must admit that Gary Anderson and I do not always see eye to eye,” Wade stated during a press conference, following his 3-0 victory over Gerwyn Price on Thursday. “However, I firmly believe that Luke Humphries ranks as the second or third best world champion we have ever seen.”
After witnessing some classic roars from Gerwyn Price during their World Grand Prix encounter, James Wade celebrated enthusiastically upon winning the first set in their last-16 match. “Numerous world champions have emerged, yet Luke Humphries has achieved nearly everything since the World Championship, as well as prior to it.”
