Luke Humphries has hit back after James Wade suggested that only Phil Taylor and possibly Michael van Gerwen surpass him in terms of greatness.
James Wade has expressed his views on Luke Humphries following current world number one and current world champion Gary Anderson’s title defence. Wayne Mardle also commented on Gary Anderson’s comments during the World Grand Prix. While Wade supported Anderson’s earlier statements, he also vigorously defended Humphries, arguing that only Phil Taylor and possibly Michael van Gerwen can be considered the greatest world champions. World No. 1 Humphries has had an impressive year, starting with a win at the 2023 World Grand Prix, followed by a Grand Slam of Darts, a Players Championship final and a win at the World Championship at Alexandra Palace later that year. Wade’s comments came shortly after two-time world champion Anderson suggested Humphries is “overlooked” and deserves “a bit more respect.”
“I have to admit that Gary Anderson and I don’t always see eye to eye,” Wade said in a press conference after his 3-0 win over Gerwyn Price on Thursday. “But I strongly believe Luke Humphries is the second or third best world champion I’ve ever seen.”
After watching Gerwyn Price’s classic roar during their World Grand Prix match, James Wade enthusiastically celebrated his first set win in the last 16. “There have been many world champions before, but Luke Humphries has pretty much done it all since the World Championship and even before that.
