LIV Golf delivers contract message to players as Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka face uncertain future

A whole host of LIV Golf’s biggest names were handed mega-money contracts to join the breakaway league, but they will not be offered the same fees when re-signing

LIV Golf executives have informed their playing members that the mega-money signing fees that brought in a number of the league’s big names will not be offered during new contract negotiations.

The LIV setup attracted some of the biggest names in the sport following its inception in 2022, with the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau signing deals worth in excess of $100 million. These agreements, however, are soon set to expire.

According to Golfweek, the same eye-watering offers will not be made a second time around. All eyes will be on Dustin Johnson, whose contract with the league expires later this year, per the report.

Johnson has enjoyed plenty of success during his time with LIV, winning the double in the league’s maiden season, after clinching the Team Championship with the 4Aces alongside his individual title. Despite this, Johnson has struggled for form more recently, especially on the major stage.

In 2025, the two-time major winner missed the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship in a run to forget for the 4Aces skipper. Johnson is not the only one who arrived at LIV via a big payout, with Koepka and DeChambeau also signing lucrative deals.

Unlike their former Ryder Cup teammate, the two former PGA Tour stars will see their current contracts expire at the end of next season. Koepka’s case, in particular, has caught the attention of many after doubts over his future with the Saudi-backed circuit had been cast.

It came after former Masters champion Fred Couples claimed that Koepka wanted to make a return to the PGA Tour. Couples told KJR 93.3 FM: “I talked to Brooks Koepka all the time. I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talked to him all the time.

“He wants to come back [to the PGA Tour]. I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.” The comments were posed to Koepka in March, and the Smash GC captain refused to confirm where his future lay.

“Everybody seems to have their own opinion, and no one asks me,” Koepka said ahead of the league’s recent event in Singapore. “Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms. I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we’ll see what happens.“

DeChambeau, meanwhile, appears much more committed to the LIV product. Rumors earlier this year linked the U.S. Open champion with a move back to the PGA Tour at the end of 2025.

However, a LIV insider confirmed to Mirror U.S. Sports that DeChambeau was “committed to the long-term success and future of their teams and the league,” and that his contract ran into 2026.

Jon Rahm, meanwhile, who signed LIV’s biggest contract back in December 2023, has longer-term commitments to the league. The Spaniard penned a deal worth a reported $600 million and went on to win the league’s individual title during his maiden season last year.
