Dan Brown shares what he found ‘unbelievable’ about Scottie Scheffler after playing together at The Open

Dan Brown has shared the one big thing he noticed about Scottie Scheffler after playing alongside the world number one during the final round of The Open Championship at Royal Troon last month.
Dan Brown was the big surprise package from the final major of the year, with the Englishman the leader after the first round in South Ayrshire. And he remained in the mix heading into Sunday, proving to be one of six players who were one shot off the lead, held by Billy Horschel before the final round.
Scottie Scheffler was one shot further back and was drawn with Brown for Sunday. Of course, many would have expected Scheffler to be the one to emerge from the pack to lift the Claret Jug.
The 28-year-old looked to be on course to set the benchmark, but Scheffler essentially four-putted on the ninth before falling away. Scheffler’s round would end with a remarkable tee shot on the 18th which did not even reach the fairway.

Nevertheless, Brown was clearly very impressed by The Masters champion, as he was asked on OuttaBoundz about playing alongside Scheffler, as well as Shane Lowry the day before.

“The big thing I learned with him was just his mentality was just unbelievable. He’s so chill, after two holes I was like —-, I could just go speak to him about anything. He’s the world number one, he’s normal,” he said.
“We did speak to him quite a lot.
I didn’t speak to Shane much because you were literally hitting your shot and running for the umbrella.”
One question still facing world number one
It appears that Scheffler has a fantastic mindset to build on what has happened in his career, particularly in the last 12 months. There was a reason why the American team were so keen for Scheffler to be picked for the 2021 Ryder Cup before he had even won a PGA Tour event.
He is someone who does not get particularly carried away when he enjoys real success – and it would have been easy to after he won six times before the end of June this year.
The one question still facing Scheffler is whether he is going to be able to sustain this kind of form over a long period – a period which sees his name go alongside the greatest to have ever played the game.
It is surely only going to help if he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground – only metaphorically, of course.
