Shocking Jon Rahm told he ‘can’t have it all’ after latest PGA Tour/LIV claim
Jon Rahm has outlined what he hopes for the future as the PGA Tour continue to negotiation with LIV Golf’s backers to secure a peace agreement.
Jon Rahm says he’s optimistic the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s backers will strike an agreement soon as he outlined his vision for the future.
Rahm is back in his homeland this week making his first DP World Tour start since he joined the breakaway last December.
The Spaniard told reporters before the Open de España that he simply hopes to ‘play freely’ in the future.
He explained there are certain events on the PGA Tour’s schedule that do not conflict with LIV’s.
“Being a member of the European Tour, I never had to ask to go play anything and the PGA was basically the same,” Rahm said in Madrid.
“You could do whatever you wanted as a player and enjoy this sport in other tournaments and tours in the world.”
He added: “What I have done and what many players have done, I don’t think much about that.
“I think there are many people who don’t understand very well what those in the world want.
“Few or almost none of the players would want to play a whole year on the PGA Tour again because it would be impossible to combine the two.
“But being able to have the option of playing certain tournaments is what I said.
“If we started in February, in January I would have time to play Torrey Pines and the American Express.
“It would be cases like that to be able to come here without problems, and enjoy being a DP World Tour member as I am.”
Rahm said he had ‘no idea’ how talks between officials at the PGA Tour and Saudi PIF are developing.
European Tour Group chief executive Guy Kinnings told reporters last week there is genuine optimism.
Although Rory McIlroy claimed scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Justice as well as players’ own wishes are two huge stumbling blocks.
But Rahm has heard gossip that has led him to believe ‘a huge step forward has been made’.
“I’m optimistic,” he said.
It comes as no suprise that Rahm’s latest comments were met with a mixed response by golf fans on X.
Some suggested Rahm ‘can’t have it all’.
Others pointed out that his sentiments were completely at odds with what he told the No Laying Up podcast before he joined LIV.
